Training and Socialization

Each puppy also receives individual training and socialization with children and adults along with other dogs to ensure a smooth transition into their new homes.  We enlist the services of certified dog trainer, Katherine Aromaa of Cooper's Dog Training and Behavior Modification, to use personality screening to provide the best match with loving owners.

Katherine will perform the Volhard puppy temperament test to help ensure that each puppy goes to the right home.  This test assesses the puppy's sociability, sensitivity, cooperativeness, energy level, trainability, intelligence, assertiveness, and stability.  The test is done when the puppies are 49 days old.  This is when the puppies are neurologically complete and have the brain of an adult.  The Volhard helps us place the right puppy with the right family.  The personality and strengths of the puppy are matched to the adoptive family's life style.

Our puppies are also exposed to early neural stimulation during the first week after birth.  This stimulation enhances the trainability of the puppy.  In addition, our puppies are exposed to early crate training, car rides and basic potty training along with the sights and sounds of a busy household.

Puppy Allocation and Pickup

At 6 weeks we evaluate each puppy using the Volhard temperament test to ensure the best match for each adoptive family.  At 7 weeks each puppy is given a complete health exam by our Veterinarian.  The puppies are then matched with their new families based on our evaluation of the puppies temperament in conjunction with the adoptive families preferences stated in the applications, email correspondence and phone conversations.

We work very hard to find the best fit for our puppy and your family.  Occasionally, we do not find the right match for your family in a current litter.  If this happens, or you find the timing is not right to receive your new puppy, you will be moved to the next available litter.

The puppies are ready to be picked up at 8 weeks.  For puppies flying in an airline's cargo hold, puppies will be shipped starting at 9 weeks.

Grooming

At 3 weeks, our puppies are introduced to the grooming process. Our groomer, Amy Tobar, comes every 2 weeks to clip nails, bathe and trim our dogs.  The puppies get used to the grooming table and the experience of having their toenails clipped. In this way, the puppies will be comfortable with being groomed when they come home to you.

We now carry these items to help you with your everyday care of your Doodle:
* Untangler combs
* Lime green Les Pooches Brushes
* Mango and Melon Ear Cleaner
